Everett Schuster
About the Artist
Schuster is a third generation artist based in Cincinnati Ohio. Everett uses what he calls "Alternative Mediums" in each piece. These materials can range from metallic pigments, charcoal, beauty products, a blow torch, acids, spray paint, inks, dyes, wine, precious metal leaf etc. His work often plays with light for a deep and vibrant effect, caused by the raw metal being etched and hammered by hand as the first layer of his process. Each piece enters his studio as a plane of raw aluminum or copper and leaves as a 1 of 1 original. Because his work is so hard to replicate, Schuster keeps meticulous notes and photographs as references to help navigate his developing works. Countless hours are dedicated to observing and logging his massive library of materials and their reactions to one another.
"My passion is chasing the harmony between art and design. For me, art is loose and organic; while design is calculated, and purposeful. I enjoy natural reactions with intention regarding palette, space and form. Some of my favorite works start as one idea and end as something completely unanticipated. These are the pieces that steer my development and are often hard to let go of."
